Is it Columbus Day or Indigenous Peoples' Day?
The federal holiday is officially Columbus Day, the second Monday in October. Many states, cities, and schools observe it as Indigenous Peoples' Day instead, or both. The name doesn't change mail service. USPS follows the federal calendar, so post offices are closed everywhere.
What about UPS and FedEx?
Private carriers set their own holiday calendars, and Columbus Day isn't always on them. Check the UPS and FedEx holiday schedules before you plan a pickup or a delivery around Monday.
Banks, schools, and everything else
Federal offices close. Many banks close because the Federal Reserve observes the holiday. Schools and local governments vary by state and district. Most stores are open.
Shipping an order this week?
We print every day, holidays included, so your transfers don't wait on the calendar. The carrier does. If something has to land by a set date, give it an extra day this week. Every other postal closure for the year is in our post office holidays list, and the year-end cutoffs are in our holiday shipping deadlines.
