If today is one of the dates in the tables below, yes. Post offices are closed and regular mail isn't delivered. Everything else is a normal mail day, including the day before and after a holiday. Sundays have no regular mail delivery any week, though some packages still arrive.

What happens when a holiday lands on a weekend
This is where people get caught. Federal offices move a Saturday holiday to Friday and a Sunday holiday to Monday. The Postal Service doesn't always follow that.
- Saturday holidays. In 2026, Independence Day fell on a Saturday. USPS said post offices would be open and mail would be delivered as normal on Friday, July 3, and closed on Saturday, July 4.
- Sunday holidays. The closure moves to Monday. Expect July 5, 2027 to be a no-mail day.
What still runs on a postal holiday
- UPS and FedEx set their own holiday calendars and run on some federal holidays that USPS takes off. Check each carrier's holiday schedule before you count on a pickup.
- Online postage still works. You can buy labels and schedule a pickup for the next business day.
- Self-service kiosks in some lobbies stay available when the counter is closed.
