Getting here from Van Nuys
From Van Nuys, take the 405 north to the 118 west and exit into Chatsworth. It is about 15 miles and usually around 20 to 25 minutes. You can also stay on surface streets across the Valley if the 405 is jammed. It takes longer but it is predictable.
Call (818) 527-8264 before you leave to make sure your sheet is done. For more on how we work across the region, see DTF transfers in Los Angeles.
Who orders shirts in Van Nuys
Aviation businesses
Van Nuys Airport is one of the busiest general aviation airports in the world, operated by Los Angeles World Airports. Around it sit charter operators, flight schools, maintenance shops and FBOs. They need uniform tees, polos and jackets with a clean left chest logo and maybe a tail number or company name across the back. DTF presses onto polyester blends and nylon jackets as well as cotton, so one order can cover a whole uniform set. Our guide to DTF on polyester covers the fabric side.
Car culture
General Motors built cars at the Van Nuys Assembly plant from 1947 to 1992, including Camaros, Novas and Impalas, about 6.3 million vehicles in all. The site is now The Plant shopping center, but the car scene never left. Car clubs, meet organizers and shop crews order event shirts with dates on the back and a club crest on the front. Keep in mind that automaker names and badges are trademarks, so a club crest should be your own design.
Music and studios
Sound City Studios, one of the most storied recording rooms in LA, is in Van Nuys. Bands and small labels in the area order merch in short runs, which fits DTF better than screen printing until a design proves it sells.
Local schools and offices
Van Nuys High School on Cedros Avenue means spirit, team and club shirts, and Los Angeles Valley College is just east in Valley Glen. The civic center around the 1932 Valley Municipal Building brings government offices and the small businesses that serve them: print shops, cafes, law offices, contractors. All of them need a few logo shirts at a time.
Band merch on a budget
Bands are the classic short-run customer. A few ways to make DTF work for a merch table:
- Print a gang sheet of every design and press only the sizes and colors that sell. You keep blanks instead of a box of mediums nobody wants.
- Add a tour date back print as a separate transfer so the front design works for years.
- Store spares properly. Unpressed transfers keep 6 to 12 months stored flat, sealed, cool and dry.
- Press at shows. A portable press handles it, though a household iron is a weaker backup.
Pickup steps
- Build your order. Use the gang sheet builder for multiple designs. See how gang sheets work if this is your first one.
- Confirm it is ready. One phone call, (818) 527-8264.
- Drive up the 405. 9736 Variel Ave, Chatsworth, weekdays 10AM to 5PM.
- Press. 300°F, high pressure, 10 seconds, peel hot, then a 5 second post-press.
