Getting from Burbank to the shop

From Burbank, take the 5 north, then the 118 (Ronald Reagan Freeway) west into Chatsworth. Coming back, reverse it. With clear freeways it runs about 25 minutes. At rush hour the 5 through Sun Valley and Sylmar can double that, so a midday pickup is the smart move.

If the drive does not fit your day, skip it. Orders placed before 1PM PT ship the same business day, so you are not losing a day to the drive. For everything else about how we print and who we serve across the region, see our main page on DTF transfers in Los Angeles.

A studio town runs on short-run shirts

Burbank calls itself the Media Capital of the World, and it earns the name. Warner Bros., The Walt Disney Company, Nickelodeon Animation Studio, Cartoon Network Studios and The Burbank Studios all operate here. That means a steady stream of small, specific apparel jobs:

  • Crew and wrap shirts. A show title on the front, a season or episode count on the back, maybe 40 people on the call sheet. That is a single gang sheet.
  • Department shirts. Grip, electric, art, post. Same base design with a different department line on each, which DTF handles without any extra setup.
  • Prop and wardrobe pieces. A fictional company logo on a work shirt or a jacket that has to look real on camera. DTF holds fine lines and small type well, so a believable fake brand reads cleanly at close range.
  • Event and premiere merch. Screening swag, festival staff tees, cast gifts in a few sizes.

One caution for studio crews: show titles, characters and studio logos are trademarks. Internal crew gear usually goes through the production office for approval. Get that sign-off before you send art.

Schools, the airport and everyone else

Studios are only part of the city. Burbank Unified runs two comprehensive high schools, Burbank High School and John Burroughs High School, and both generate the usual spirit wear, team, band and senior class orders. Hollywood Burbank Airport, the old home of Lockheed's Skunk Works, anchors a cluster of aviation and logistics businesses that need uniform tees and polos with a left chest logo.

School and team orders tend to come in mixed sizes on short notice. Because DTF prints the design on film and you press it onto the blank, you can stock youth and adult shirts in the school colors and press names or numbers as the roster firms up.

How Burbank pickup works

  1. Build your sheet. Lay out a gang sheet in the builder, or order individual transfers by size if you only need a few.
  2. Call before you drive. Ring (818) 527-8264 before you head up the 5 so you are not driving 20 miles for a sheet still curing.
  3. Pick up in Chatsworth. 9736 Variel Ave, Monday to Friday, 10AM to 5PM.
  4. Press at 300°F. High pressure, 10 seconds, peel hot, then a 5 second post-press. A household iron works in a pinch, but a press lasts longer through the wash.

Art tips for production work

Production departments often send logos pulled from a pitch deck or a screenshot. Those rarely hold up at full chest size. Ask the art department for the original vector file, or export at 300 DPI at the size you will print. A 12 inch wide back print needs 3,600 pixels across to stay sharp.

For a dark wrap shirt, DTF prints a white underbase behind your colors, so bright art stays bright on black. Thin hairlines under about 1 point can get lost in the powder, so thicken them before you upload. If you are also covering North Hollywood productions, the North Hollywood page has notes on that side of the hill.

FAQ

How long is the drive from Burbank to your shop?

About 20 miles, usually around 25 minutes with light traffic on the 5 and the 118. Allow more at rush hour.

Can I order a single crew shirt transfer?

Yes. There are no minimums. Pricing runs as low as $0.03 per square inch, with lower rates on bigger orders.

Will DTF look right on camera?

DTF has a slight satin finish and holds small text and fine detail, which makes it a good fit for prop shirts and background wardrobe. For a matte look, keep the design area modest and avoid huge solid blocks.

Do you print studio or show logos?

We print the art you send, but titles, characters and studio logos are trademarks. Get approval from the production or the rights holder before ordering.
